Central to this collaboration is a joint AI innovation hub where Vodafone Idea and IBM Consulting specialists will co-develop AI solutions, automation tools, and digital accelerators specifically tailored for telecom operations. This isn’t simply about purchasing off-the-shelf AI software—it’s about creating custom solutions that address the unique challenges of running a massive telecom network.

The hub will integrate with Vodafone Idea’s unified DevOps team, a technical approach that combines software development and IT operations to speed up system updates and reduce errors. In practical terms, this means AI will help automate routine network maintenance tasks, predict equipment failures before they occur, and optimize network performance in real-time.

The company holds substantial spectrum assets, including mid-band 5G spectrum in 17 telecom circles (geographic service areas defined by Indian telecom regulations) and millimeter wave spectrum in 16 circles. Mid-band spectrum offers a balance between coverage and speed, while millimeter wave spectrum provides ultra-high speeds over shorter distances—both critical for delivering comprehensive 5G services.
