Mosaic’s global digital transformation unifies businesses and unlocks data power: The Mosaic Company has completed a $300 million digital transformation to align its crop nutrition and fertilizer businesses across 40 countries, creating a common cloud infrastructure and global processes that will enable the company to capitalize on data and AI.

Technology overhaul brings global alignment: Key components of Mosaic’s transformation include:

  • Migrating to Microsoft Azure and replacing nearly every business process
  • Implementing SAP HANA, Salesforce, and O9’s digital supply chain system
  • Building an Azure-based data lake, the Global Mosaic Information Center, to provide worldwide data visibility to its 13,000 employees

Organizational and process changes complement tech upgrades: CIO Jeff Wysocki emphasizes that the transformation is a “trifecta” involving simultaneous changes to the organization, processes, and technology. This end-to-end modernization spans from supply chain to sales, aiming to deliver at least three times the investment.

Foundation laid for AI and advanced analytics: With the new cloud-based data lake and SaaS ecosystem in place, Mosaic is poised to integrate AI capabilities as they come online, such as:

  • Embedded AI in SAP for automated invoice processing
  • Building specific AI models for areas like environmental health and safety
  • Leveraging the cloud foundation to create advanced analytics and machine learning models that span the global enterprise

Transformation marks a new beginning: While the core Global Digital Acceleration project is now live after a swift two-year timeline, Wysocki stresses that this is just the start of Mosaic’s digital journey and modernized customer and employee experience. The work to capitalize on this new foundation is ongoing.

Broader implications for data-driven businesses: Mosaic’s transformation highlights how unifying global operations and data in the cloud sets the stage for enterprises to become more data-driven, implement advanced AI and machine learning, and optimize metrics like resource usage. However, technology is just one piece of the puzzle – organizational and process changes are equally critical for success.
