Google’s Vision Match and AR Beauty features are transforming online shopping with AI-generated visuals and virtual try-ons. Now widely available after limited testing, these tools help shoppers visualize clothing and makeup based on descriptions or trends, bridging the gap between imagination and shopping reality. These innovations represent Google’s growing commitment to using AI for enhancing online retail experiences with more personalized and interactive shopping capabilities.

The big picture: Google has expanded access to Vision Match, an AI tool that generates clothing images based on user descriptions and suggests similar purchasable items.

  • The feature, previously limited to testers, is now available to all mobile users in the US via Google Search and the Shopping tab.
  • Users can access the tool by searching for clothing items and selecting the “Can’t find it? Create it” option, which opens a Gemini-like interface showing AI-generated images of described garments.

How it works: Vision Match allows shoppers to describe detailed clothing preferences and view AI-generated examples alongside shoppable alternatives.

  • Users enter clothing queries with as many details as desired, then tap the “Can’t find it? Create it” button that appears in search results.
  • The system generates visual representations of the described clothing and displays similar products available for purchase below the AI images.
  • The feature can also be accessed directly from the Shopping tab’s left-hand panel by selecting “Create & shop.”

Beyond clothing: Google has simultaneously enhanced its AR Beauty features with new virtual makeup try-on capabilities.

  • Users can now search for celebrity makeup looks or beauty trends like “soft glam” and virtually try on products inspired by those styles.
  • The updated feature supports lipsticks, mascaras, eyeshadows, and eyeliners from various brands and is rolling out to US users this week.
  • Google has also expanded its virtual clothing try-on feature to include pants and skirts, which can be previewed on diverse models ranging from XXS to XXL.
