# Nvidia’s AI chips are about to change everything — here’s why

Nvidia’s recent GTC conference showcased stunning advances in AI hardware that will dramatically reshape what’s possible in artificial intelligence. The innovations go far beyond mere spec bumps, representing fundamental leaps in computing power that will make AI more accessible and capable.

## The building blocks: from Blackwell to Vera Rubin

Nvidia’s hardware evolution starts at the chip level with significant improvements to their GPU architecture. The new Blackwell Ultra GPUs feature:

– 50% more memory (288GB of HBM3 per GPU)
– 100% liquid cooling for better density and energy efficiency
– A completely redesigned die with 1.5x more performance

These improvements alone deliver meaningful gains, but the real magic happens when these components are combined into complete systems.

## The supercomputer in a rack: GB300

The current flagship GB300 system combines multiple compute trays, each containing:

– 4 Blackwell Ultra GPUs
– 2 Grace CPUs
– Bluefield 3 DPUs for security and connectivity
– “Power steering” technology that dynamically allocates power between components

These trays connect through specialized NVLink switch trays using printed circuit boards instead of copper wires, making connections more reliable while maintaining the same ultra-fast data rates.

When fully assembled into an NVL72 rack (containing 72 GPUs), the system delivers:
– 1.1 exaflops of AI performance
– 40 terabytes of fast memory
– Enough interconnect bandwidth to move massive amounts of data between all components

## The next revolution: Vera Rubin and Kyber

The upcoming Vera Rubin architecture represents an even bigger leap:
– 3.6 exaflops of AI performance (3.3x more than Blackwell)
– 75 terabytes of fast memory (1.9x more than Blackwell)
– Twice the connection speed between GPUs (3.6 Gbps per GPU)
